Will both Part L2 2010 & Part L 2013 Regulations be included?

Yes, assuming users have a valid licence for both Part L2 2010 and Part L2 2013. We are offering users who already have Part L 2010 a discount on Part L 2013 until June 2014. Contact your sales representative for more details or email sales@iesve.com

I already have Part L2 2010, do i not get a key for Part L2 2013?

No, users need to contact their sales representative to add Part L 2013 to their package. Again, we are offering users who already have Part L2 2010 a discount on Part L2 2013 until June 2014.

Will my results change from Part L2 2010 to Part L2 2013?

Yes, for Part L2 2013 BRE are predicting a 9% aggregate improvement. From our own tests we have found this to vary significantly between building types with some buildings showing a 8 to 9% improvement on 2010 and in some cases a lot higher.

Will my results change from Part L2 2010 in VE 2013 to Part L2 2010 in VE 2014?

Yes, from running the official test cases in both versions we have noticed a change in results for Part L2 2010. This is due to corrections made to the NCM Database issued by BRE which is used for both 2010 and 2013 regulations. We have also made a few updates which are detailed in the VE 2014 release notes.

NCM Template Updates [ID-]: A number of fixes and updates are made to the NCM Templates which affect existing regulations (including Part L2 2010) ApacheSim methods so as to match recent NCM Modelling Guide and NCM Activities Database updates;

Profile values are stored and read to more decimal places to better match precision of NCM Activity Database.
Corrections to some Activities Database values (e.g. Hot Water Consumption rates) are incorporated in the NCM Templates
Plant profiles are corrected to match NCM Modelling Guide rules for plant operation (previously had been tied to occupancy schedules).

We encourage users who have noticed a change in their BER/TER after upgrading and running again in VE 2014 to look at their results in Vista as it will help in understanding why the results have changed.

If I want to lodge an EPC, do I need to use Part L2 2013?

No, the switch over date for lodging EPC's using the new regulation was intended to be 6th May but this has been further extended by one month so users can lodge EPC's using Part L2 2010 until 6th June. If you have any further questions regarding this then we recommend contacting your accreditation scheme in the first instance.

Hi,

I have just installed VE2014. I only seem to have the option of doing a 2013 regs simulation with SBEM not DSM.

Am I missing something?

Thanks

Ross

Ross,

I would guess you have a licencing issue.

I noticed using ApacheSim for 2013 automatically sets the level of assessment to level 5. Can you not assess a level 4 buidling using apacheSIm?

Hi Ben,

Does it allow you to select ApacheSim for 2013 regs then? Myself and a colleague can't do that - we only get SBEM.

The automatic setting of level 5 may be a deliberate move. DSM EPCs can have different audit requirements and lodgement fees. My accreditation body have asked me to lodge any DSM EPC as level 5 regardless of features etc.

Lots of debate on this here:

Ross,

Yes i can selected ApacheSim or SBEM for 2013. SBEM is free whereas ApacheSim is not so I'd check that it has added to your licenses and that your software has been reactivated etc. you don't get apacheSim 2013 automatically.

Hi Guys,

First two points on my post above cover this; you need to request a key in order to see DSM for Part L2 2013. This is not free but it is discounted if you already have Part L2 2010 DSM, but only for one month so you need to be quick and ask for a quote from sales.

If you are using a level 5 tool then the project complexity needs to be set to level 5, even if it doesn't have level 5 features. This is an amendment we have made in VE 2014 to ensure the correct project complexity is being selected following a request from CIBSE after they had picked up some buildings not being correctly classified. In summary any building that is assessed using a DSM must be categorised as a Level 5. I believe this is in part so that the projects can be correctly audited but there may be other reasons as well.
