Diffuse Shading Analysis

Post by kokaka »

Hi ya,

How to reduce the amount of time does take for Diffuse Shading analysis in IES 6.0.
Why always does Diffuse shading analysis takes a long time some times over one hour or so...!!
Is there any way where we can reduce the amount of time for shading analysis with out altering the shading results.

Cheers

Hi there,

Sadly no there is no way to reduce the solar shading calculation time at present without simplifying the model geometry. The more shading surfaces you have and general complexity of model (think surfaces, openings etc) the longer the solar shading calcs will take.

We are investigating the use of parallel processing to speed this process up but I can not confirm when this will be available.

What I usually do is if I'm finished modifying the geometry in ModelIT and am working in either Apache or MacroFlo (which don't affect the geometry), I start a second instance of IESVE, load the same model, and run SunCast on that second instance. That way I don't lose time, especially that some models require several hours to complete a SunCast computation. It's not exactly what you asked, but the net result is to save time without affecting the quality of your model.
