Window shades having no effect on FlucsDL results

Post by KGogarty »

I am working on a project and have been asked by the architect to run a daylight analysis. The architect would like to show the client how including some externally mounted brise soleil type shades will reduce direct solar gains to the space. When I model the building with and without the shades I get the exact same results.
-I have deleted the shades from the model entirely, not simply "unticked" them.
-I have run suncast again every time I make a change to the model
- when I look in model viewer II and turn on shadows and sun path, I can see a difference in shadows cast into the space when I turn the shades on and off, similarly when I look at images in radiance and suncast with the clear roof, so I know there should be a difference.

I am trying to create a "filled contour image" for daylight in foot candles, which both work but appear the same with and without shades.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

You have to go to quality settings at the option tab and set the quality at least to medium or go to the advanced tab.

You have to check the "Obstruct light : surfaces from shading bodies"

Maybe this is the reason that the shading device is not included in the calculation

Thanks very much for the reply and solution. I knew it was a simple button somewhere.

Quite disappointed with the software here if I'm honest. I would imagine this is one of the main uses for the Flucs application. I have always used Suncast and radiance images in my reports because of this. its also a pain that when modifying and re designing shades, I have to constantly go in and re-tick this box, it does not remember it.

Thanks for the help
