Edit Materials "Parameter Summary" box / RtGtBt values?

Post by Herrington_Daylight »

Hi all,

When running daylight simulations in Radiance so far I've been using the default materials settings, however it is becoming necessary to have to edit materials depending on the nature of the model - eg; So instead of using the default glass material settings I need to edit the properties of glass in a window to make it more obscured/ etched/ patterns/ opaque, ect...

From the 3rd Radiance tab "surface properties" you can create or edit a material by bringing up the "Edit/ Select Material" dialogue box to do this. However I don't know how to use this to specify the specific properties that might be required for bespoke glass. I haven't found a VE/ IES Radiance guide or manual which has specifically dealt with this either. I think editing the "R-tns, G-trns, B-trns" transmissivity values are important but I'm not entirely sure what they are or how I should edit them. I thought they might be relating to the colour of the glass or the wavelength of light which is transmitted but I'm not sure. Either way - that doesn't indicate that it alters other properties of the glass. I've looked at manufactures web sites too which hasn't shed any light on this.

Any ideas? Please feel free to help! :) I'm very new to Radiance so apologies if this seems elementary.

Thanks,

Naomi.
