Hi,
Question: can TM52 assessment be used for school building ?
can I use CIBSE TM52 assessment for a school building through the use of tool provided by IES , ?
I am not quite sure if the current B101 overheating criteria outdated by EFA? Or is this up to the client who chooses what approach they wish to choose to comply ? weather with the fixed approach (B101) or adaptive approach ( via tm52)
thank you

Re: TM52 overheaiting critearia for school building
Hi,
It seems a bit of a grey area as to which overheating criteria apply now.
TM52 needs to be used for schools under the 'priority schools program'. But for other schools I believe BB101 is still current.
I spoke to CIBSE very recently and their new guide A should be published early next year and TM52 will be the criteria in that, replacing 1% above 28degC etc.
As far as I know there is generally no completely mandatory overheating criteria (some priority schools may be an exception). This suggests that any brief could be agreed with a client/building control.

Re: TM52 overheaiting critearia for school building
Hi Ross
Thanks for the info. That was basically my understanding too.
What is considered an "acceptable" level of overheating is quite subjective and seems to be left to the client to specify in most cases. BB101 has almost always taken precedent over the general CIBSE criteria when it comes to schools and so I'd imagine it will be the same when CIBSE updates it's criteria to adopt TM52.
Personally I hope BB101 is updated to adopt TM52 because BB101 is a bit pants as far as overheating criteria is concerned imho.
