Ground Heat Gain Cooling Load

Post by junaidbinnaseer »

Dear All

As per ASHRAE Fundamentals and other publications done by ASHRAE, for cooling load calculation the slab on grade heat gain is neglected as they consider it as heat loss rather than gain. This can be found in Chapter 18 Non residential cooling load calculation and it can be compared to HAP software which also considers it 0 or a credit rather than a heat gain when doing cooling load calculation.

IES VE follows the heat balance method for cooling load calculations therefore three questions arise:

1. Why does IES VE calculate heat gain for cooling load calculations when ASHRAE's heat balance method and other softwares neglect it ?

2. Why does IES VE software does not takes into account the soil temperature which will be different for the edges than in the center? How come such a hi tech software needs users to put the ground temperature ?

3. What is the temperature profile taken by IES VE when users inputs the ground temperature ? Does it take same for the edges and center ?
