Creating Zoning Diagram

Post by bbrannon4 »

Hi,

Does anyone know a good way to create a zoning diagram from a model? By zoning diagram I just mean floor plans that show room names to distribute to others to check that the mechanical zoning is acceptable to them. A bonus would to be able to color code via space template (or layer if necessary, though that's an extra step). I know of a few options, but none are ideal.

1. Use the "text=on" command in ModelIt to display room id, name, area, and volume of highlighted rooms. The problem here is there is no control of text size (other than zooming) and no ability to control which of those four parameters are shown or hidden. When zoomed out to show the whole floor plan the text is so huge that it overlaps itself.

2. Show text names in ModelViewer II. I have the opposite problem here where text size is completely uneditable and always too small to see. I am also not sure of an easy way to align to plan view in ModelViewer, which would be helpful.

3. This isn't actually in the VE, but if you happen to be exporting gbXML from Revit, it is very easy to create nice floor plans where space tags are completely editable and color schemes can be created, such as by space name. This is really what I'd like to mimic but from models constructed in ModelIt.

Any Ideas?

Thanks,
Ben

Hi,

In ModelIT try Tools>Create Slice.

You can export a DXF file with zones and roomnames.

It doesn't look much at first, but 5 minutes of editing in 2D CAD software should give you what you are after.
