TM 52 - Changing Activity and Clothing levels

When analysing overheating for rooms with different kinds of use, e.g. meeting rooms and a gymnasium, and changing the Activity and Clothing level to suit the different kinds of use in the TM52 dialogue box I get exactly the same results.

In other words the gym passes every time, with exactly the same results even when I change the activity to 'Vigorous sport..' and the clothing to 'Sportswear', which frankly I doubt can be true, since it has 777 hours over 21 Dry Resultant.

Does this feature actually work? If not, what activity and clothing level is being allowed for?

Hi,

Are these settings used in the TM52 analyses? I'm not convinced that they are but haven't read the standard for some time, I think perhaps they are only used in the PMV PPD calculations?

You are right, just re-read TM52 and the method does not explicitly include changes of activity or clothing because it is implicit that users are doing this to adapt, and its this adaptation that is what is being modelled. This means that TM52 isn't a valid analysis in situations where users cannot change their clothing or metabolic rate in response to the ambient conditions, e.g. in gym, (in reality I guess users will just pack up if it gets too hot).
