Proper Steps for Daylighting Controls?

Hi,

I'm very confused in regards to accounting for daylighting controls in my simulation
To my understanding there are two ways to run a radiance calculation

First Method: PRM Navigator
- Apply dimming profile for lighting loads to desired spaces
- Set glazing transmittance values in the surface properties tab within radiance
- Save MAP file
- Set sensors
- Save illum file
- Run Daylight Simulation in the PRM Navigator
- Run PRM Simulation
It looks like the Daylight simulation button in the PRM navigator can be used without setting the surface properties and sensors. When this happens what is the software doing? How can a space dim without sensors?

Second Method: Radiance module alone
- Apply dimming profile
- Set glazing transmittance values in the surface properties tab within radiance
- Save MAP file
- Set sensors
- Save illum file
- Run the 'Apache' button in the sensors tab
- Run ApacheSimulation
With the second method... the PRM simulation within the PRM Navigator does not recognize my radiance results. The radiance link button is grayed out?

Is my general understanding of the process to include day-lighting controls correct? There are several instances when I check the illuminance of the space and I see that a certain space is getting 6000 Foot-Candles. I've double checked that my sensors are within the space but can't seem to find the cause.

Any help would be appreciated,
Thanks,
