Modeling HVAC Systems for Final LEED Submission

Post by Eng-wintersmith »

I have a project which is completing design and I need to finalize my IES model for submission to USGBC.

How do I build the Proposed HVAC systems so they have enough detail for LEED?

For example, the project HVAC engineer has provided a mechanical schedule with a couple dozen Fan Coil units. There are a least six unique types based on the nominal tonnage (cooling) listed in the schedule.

To date my ApacheHVAC file has 1 prototype system (Type 03a) with the rooms assigned to the multiplex. This unit is autosized for load, with some edits on the fan pressure drop to match what I previously new about the design.

I know that ApachHVAC will generate/simulate individual fan coils for each layer in the multiplex.

How much do I need to edit to meet the LEED requirements? Do I have to have a one-for-one match to the mechanical schedule? If so, how do I do this?

In other modeling programs I've used I've had a one-for-one match between the systems in my simulation and the mechanical schedule.
