Merge tool - why so temperamental

Post by jerry »

The merge tool is useful - when it works. You go to great lengths drawing the floor plan, using the grid to keep it neat. You divide up some spaces, but later on you find you need to re-merge some of them. This is when the trouble begins, as VE refuses to merge some of the spaces that you previously divided. I'm not talking about two zones that you've separately drawn that you are now trying to merge, but two zones, formed by dividing a single zone into two, which you now want to re-merge into one zone. And it won't do it. Flat refuses. Why is this? As Americans would say, "Go figure". So you have to waste time deleting and redrawing zones to appease Model-It. Sometimes if you merge some other zones and then go back to the two zones it was refusing to merge, it will now merge them, so the problem is seemingly random. Very infuriating, and I wish IES would fix problems like this which are a real headache for users, instead of concentrating on dreaming up shiny new features which look flashy on exhibition stands.

I've just found a fix to this problem. Simply divide the merged spaces again, then re-merge - and it works.
