Roofs in IES. I hate em. Mostly I dont draw them and just leave it flat. But sometimes youve got rooms in loft spaces etc. Now we have a pyramid shape and thats never used as I never do any work in Egypt and thus we have no Pharaohs as clients. But a toblerone shape that behaves similarly would be bloody handy. The existing roof tool is fine if you have a basic generic building but thats never the case. Yes I know we can slice in RH view now and thats welcome, but it has a terrible habit of not working as slice and merge tools are buggy as hell.

Whilst we are on the subject, can we please have something useful for drawing rooflights too. From plan.

Please, no-one mention sketchup. That too drives me nuts.

In seriousness I'm not sure this would really be the most useful addition as the ModelIT shapes cover all basic geometry types which can then be combined or subtracted in order to make more advanced shapes and geometry configurations. For this kind of shape i'm thinking you could build the cuboid along the bottom then place a pyramid shape or draw a rhombus and then merge with the cuboid to get that overall shape in profile which can then be copied along and connected to make the longer shape? I know Merge, Partition, Subtract have occasional limitations regards extremely complex geometry but if you keep the basic shapes simple and build them in line with each other then these tools let you quickly create advanced geometry directly in ModelIT.

One additional thought as we are all thinking about libraries nowadays, you could build the basic blocks you typically use and save them out as GEM files for import and reuse in future projects. Perhaps even the user community would like to start sharing little items like that through a portal? Simple roof shape with dormer window to be incorporated into models or even just accessible to see examples of what can be done?

A toblerone shape would be most useful. Now your post would be fine should we be in possession of stable and unbuggy merge/subtract tools. We are not. Sorry IES but we aint, nope. I wish to draw a rectlinear base, proscribe my height and then be able to place the peak where i choose in relation to a roof dxf. This is simple. Why complicate it with cutting and trimming etc? Roofs in IES is already practically PHD material and dont get me started on rooflights.

Imagine building a smaller version of the house of parliament in IES and with rooms in the loft space and rooflights and then slicing it up to create individual rooms with toilets etc. Then integrating a modern rectilinear hotel into it. Using ModelIT. Ive just done this. The pyramid tool actually got used for the spires and the clocktower.

The ability to slice from the RHS is a hugely welcome addition. Thank you IES. Previously I had to rotate the space to plan to cut and trim things but this has been a boon.

Now if the reliability of the slice/merge/subtract tool etc became foolproof, now that would be something.

One can only be thankful that any of Gaudi's work is likely exempt from the EPC directive because that would be some test of modelIT.

BTW, the NCM templates are now crashing 2017 Template manager and IES. I hate 2017, its the worst iteration so far apart from its handy new tools. With its unmatched adjacencies. I just exported my 2017 gem into 2016 and guess what? No unmatched adjacencies but Ive over 200 in 2017 despite having drawn a model orthoganal. Im an ex cad guy so now how to use object snaps and ortho. 2017 has issues.

I only want to make IES better as Ive learnt to use it and am committed to it, but sometimes I think it'll drive me nutty enough to actually get committed myself.
