I couldn't find anywhere any info on what is stored in the Backup folder and on which command? I know it's some kind of backup the software is creating at certain points but, when and why? Also, will deleting the files in it corrupt or affect the model in any way since they take up a lot of space?
Thanks!
Backup Folder
Re: Backup Folder
The main thing to be aware of is that the software creates a backup when you upgrade your model (i.e. use a model created in a previous version of the VE in a newer version). You can restore your model from it later if needed.
Re: Backup Folder
Thanks, Rhind. There is no need to keep this if you are not planning on reverting to the old software version since it takes a significant amount of space...
Re: Backup Folder
yes, that would be correct. however, I have found at times upgrading the model can occur in compounding errors with existing data population assignments from the previous model version so you have to run the model report after converting to check and see the data assignments and then try to run a load to verify it imported the construction assemblies properly. If not then you might have to go through and reassign construction and thermal data. I havent been able to mess around with it and verify what exactly is causing this to occur but will post here if I figure anything new out.
Re: Backup Folder
When ever you create a cab file archive of your model (File > archive), it is stored in the backup folder, which is very useful for sharing your model with support or others, and for storing backup versions that are compressed (a cab file is Window's version of a zip file). The VE automatically does this on upgrade, like Rhind said, but if you have a lot of them in there that you didn't create, you might have automatic backups turned on (which personally I think is a good thing, but deleting them won't affect your current model).
