How the VE interface to SBEMie works

Post by Terence »

Post to explain the use of the VE and SBEMie to check compliance (BRIRL) and produce BER certificates in ROI.

The process for getting to the end goal of a compliance or BER document usually goes like this...

The user draws a model of the Actual Building in ModelIT

Image

In VE Compliance users go through the process of assigning/entering the correct inputs for the Actual Building.

Create and assign constructions (fabric) to spaces using Apache Constructions Database and Assign Constructions.
In Tabular Building Template Manager create Thermal Templates with each having the NCM Building Type and NCM Activity selected
Using Tabular Space Data, assign the created Thermal Templates to corresponding spaces
Select an overall NCM building type

Enter Building information in Set Building & System Data
Run either the Compliance (BRIRL) or BER Calculation by selecting the button

When the button to run the calculation is selected the VE collects all of the inputs, creates an input file in the project folder (select Building compliance > View Results Folder), and this input file is supplied to SBEMIE.exe, which runs a simulation on the Actual Building

Once the Actual Building Simulation is complete, SBEMIE.exe will create a reference building input file, this follows the rules of the reference building found in the NCM Modelling Guide for Ireland.

This reference building is immediately simulated by SBEMIE.exe too.

Once the simulations are complete SBEMIE.exe creates a few different output files found in the project folder, two of these are the BRIRL and BER input files which contain the results of the simulations performed by SBEMIE.exe.

The BRIRL.inp is supplied to BRIRL.exe to create the Part L 2017 Ireland compliance document.

and the BER input file will be supplied to BERGen.exe to create a BER Certificate for Ireland.
