Geometry buildup approach - First day beginner's ModelIT questions

Hi All,
It is my first day to explore IES. I realized that building the virtual 3D model is not as easy as the tutorial shows.
1. I tried to "draw prism", but did not find a way to input the length and width. The shape setting only includes height. Dragging the curse to draw a shape with particular dimensions is difficult.
2. It seems no way to select a surface or a dot. When I selected, the whole geometry turned red.
3. The key-ins are a little confusing. I was supposed to select the object and input command but got warnings.
3. Maybe creating the geometry in Sketchup and import to IES is a better way?
