I always struggle to control things based on if a space is in heating or cooling. For example, I typically want to lower blinds if a space is in cooling mode and there is some solar gain above a threshold or something. I use temperature near the top of the setpoint band as a proxy, but it would be much cleaner if space load (sensible, latent, or both) was an available variable. That way it would be possible to do something like, 'if load<0 AND sol > something, close the blinds.
