Hi,
ModelIT, the modelling application in <VE>, still uses surfaces with "no thickness" to model walls etc. You can view the realistic model with thicknesses based on the Constructions applied to each surface by turning on Inner Volumes.
As for SketchUp, the IES <VE> SketchUp plug-in will only work for models drawn in the <VE> Thin Wall way at the moment. We plan to introduce a Thick Wall mode feature in a future version so that models with surface thicknesses can be analysed and exported to <VE>.
Hope that answers your questions for now,
Phil
