Thermal Mass

I'm thinking of using a bunch of software packages for a uni progect. It will look at the effects of thermal mass on the exterior and interior of the building envelope. However I rad that IES is based on the CIBSE admitance method and in the CIBSE guide it states that the admitance method doesd not take the time lag therefore thermal mass into consideration. However as far as I can tell Tas uses dynamic simulation to do it. So Tas may be more apt in this task.

Any help clearing this up would be great.

Hi,

If you are using ApacheSim Dynamic Thermal Simulation then Thermal Mass (as defined in the building constructions that you have applied to your model) will be taken into account.

for further details check out the ApacheSim user guide and calculation methods docs, links below and also available from the <VE> through help >> User Guides.

glad that helped, the user guides really are the best place to start when looking for any info on the <VE>, you can download them by opening the Help >> User Guides index in <VE> or download as a zip from the Download Centre on our website.
