Microflo Query

Post by georger »

Hi

I have used Microflo successfully to look at external wind condition for several fairly simple shaped buildings with success.

I am now looking at external wind conditon around a fairly complex rectilinear building. The simulation runs ok however when view results large parts of the building are missing.

Model was originally in Rhino then converted to Sketch-up then into IES. Apachesim etc works fine.

Can anybody help with this?

Thank you!

Hi,

I don't know a great deal about CFD but in the past this issue has been experienced by users running large/complex model geometry. MicroFlo is designed primarily as an internal flow solver and it can be limited when used for external flows.

The only options you have are to refine your mesh and to simplify the model geometry. As long as you are seeing missing surfaces like this you should be wary of the results you are getting.

Note: if Apache simulations run without error then it sounds like your model is well constructed and will be suitable for use in the other <VE> applications, it is only in external MicroFlo that you will find these limitations and requirement for simpler model geometry.

Hope this helps, sorry if it is not the answer you were hoping for.
