Hi

Please can you let me know if it is possible to analyze external conditions (temp etc) in order to determine predicted mean vote (PMV) for thermal comfort?

I need to determine/quantify effectivness of external shading systems for public realm.

Thank you!

Hi,

I believe you could use ApacheSim to measure the effectiveness of shading systems on PMV quite easily. You can run simulation with different shading designs/devices and then compare the PMV and room temperature for the different results files.

The external conditions come from the weather file you use so these wouldn't change for each simulation.

Hi Phil

Thanks for responding.

I need to determine PMV for an outside space. I need to devise strategies for shading outdoor public spaces in a hot climate and I was looking to measure results in PMV.

I can build the model of what i need to analyze, i'm just unceratin if I will be able to get any results??

Thanks again.

ok I understand better now. I don't think this is possible using ApacheSim as it assumes all external spaces have the same air temperature.

It is more geared towards evaluating the effects of the shading devices on internal spaces due to the reduced solar gains they would experience.
